Acne
We treat all forms of acne with tailored treatments specific to each patient. We believe acne is NOT a rite of passage and should be treated at the earliest signs (even just a few blackheads) to help prevent a worsening of acne. Moderate to severe acne can lead to scarring and pigment changes which may not be reversible.
Rosacea
Rosacea is an inflammatory skin disorder that occurs in adults (starting in the late 20s -30s), which leads to redness, acne-like lesions, large pores, enlarged blood vessels, and thickening of the skin on the cheeks, nose, and chin. Many factors contribute to Rosacea, but there are medications and laser treatments to prevent a worsening of symptoms and reduce redness in the face, neck, and chest.
Melasma
Often referred to as “the mask of pregnancy,” melasma is a splotchy darkening of the skin due to sun exposure and hormones. Melasma may be treated with various procedures or medications, including chemical peels, topical retinoids and lightening creams, oral medications, and continuous use of sunscreen.
Sebaceous Hyperplasia
Sebaceous hyperplasia often occurs in patients with oily skin. It is due to the secretion of sebum (oil) into a clogged pore which becomes trapped under the skin forming yellow/white bumps. These are common on the forehead and nose but can occur anywhere on the face. Treatment consists of manual destruction of the oil gland, oral medications to decrease oil production, and topical medications to help maintain the open pores.
Seborrheic Keratoses/Skin Tags
Many refer to these skin lesions as “barnacles, liver spots, or senile keratoses.” These lesions may start to develop in your late 30s due to genetics. Although not cancerous, they may mimic the appearance of melanoma and can be very irritating, itchy, and become caught on jewelry or clothing. They can arise on every part of the body, including the scalp. These spots may be treated with liquid nitrogen, electrocautery, or concentrated hydrogen peroxide. Our provider has over 20 years of experience in dermatology and will tell you if the spot in question needs a biopsy (which we can also do) or if it can be treated by one of the above methods.
Cosmetic Mole Removal
Moles that are not irritated, changing, or suspicious for cancer are considered normal and are usually not covered by insurance if removed. Removal of a normal mole is often done for cosmetic purposes. All moles removed in our office will be sent to a dermatopathologist.
